Nissan will reveal a new feature of the global Patrol SUV each week leading up to its debut on September 4
pdate 8/27: Nissan has shared new teaser images of the next-generation Patrol, which you can view below.
Nissan is preparing to unveil the new generation Patrol in the Middle East, set for Thursday, September 4. Through a dedicated website, Nissan is gradually revealing the design of this large SUV, which is expected to compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser.
Although the new Patrol remains partially covered, the 360-degree view shows familiar proportions. Nissan has disclosed details such as the grille, taillights, 22-inch alloy wheels, and the twin-turbo V6 powertrain, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. The new Patrol will also lead to a new generation of the Armada for the US market, though it’s unclear how closely the designs will align.
Similar to its predecessor, the all-new Nissan Patrol will share its ladder-frame chassis with the more upscale Infiniti QX80. While the two SUVs appear to have similar proportions, the Patrol features distinct styling elements at both the front and rear.
The Nissan “V-motion” grille has a different design from that of the Infiniti QX80 and a unique pattern compared to the Nissan Armada, incorporating chrome slats and a honeycomb structure beneath. Additionally, the Patrol’s taillights are exclusive to this model, featuring vertically-stacked units linked by horizontal LED bars that connect to the Nissan emblem.
It has been confirmed that the Patrol will replace the current generation’s V8 engine with a more efficient twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 from the Infiniti QX80. Despite having fewer cylinders, Nissan assures that this engine will surpass its predecessor in capability, performance, acceleration, and power delivery. In the Infiniti, this engine produces 450 hp (336 kW / 456 PS) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque. The V6 will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system.
The outgoing Nissan Patrol (Y62) has been in production since 2010, with updates in 2014 and 2019. The new generation aims to enhance Nissan’s competitiveness against the Toyota Land Cruiser J300, which debuted in 2021.
Last year, Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s Global Head of Product Strategy and Planning, confidently claimed that the new Patrol will be “much better” than the Land Cruiser, which has been seen undergoing benchmark testing alongside camouflaged prototypes.
