A Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Owner Waits 9 Months for Battery Replacement

Hyundai faces supply issues with Sonata Hybrid battery replacements.

Hybrids are increasingly popular, but maintenance issues persist. A Florida woman waited over nine months for a replacement battery for her 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

Kari Kind from Osceola County faced issues when her Hyundai’s battery unexpectedly failed. She told News 6, “It sounded like a pinball machine going off. It was banging, and lights were flashing.”

When she took her 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to the dealership, they informed her that batteries for this model were notoriously hard to get due to supply issues. The service department initially estimated a waiting period of one to six months, but it ended up being much longer.

News 6 reporters reached out to Hyundai and received this response from Ira Gabriel, Senior Group Manager, Corporate and Marketing PR:

“Due to delays in receiving raw materials from our supplier, we are experiencing a small number of back orders on certain battery components affecting the 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrids. We are aware of the issue and have significantly increased our orders above demand to ensure a sufficient parts supply. Hyundai is working directly with the impacted suppliers to facilitate the necessary flow of parts.”
