Let’s be honest: not everyone needs a full-size pickup, and that’s where the Tundar steps in
I’m no expert in international copyright law, but I’d bet Toyota’s legal team isn’t thrilled with the Chinese truck brand SVH. Their latest pickup doesn’t just mimic the design of the new Tundra—it’s even called the Tundar. And no, that’s not a typo.
The SVH Tundar looks like a scaled-down, cartoonish version of the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Its design is almost identical but squashed into smaller, more upright proportions. The back end is especially amusing, where SVH blatantly copied the Tundra’s design and didn’t bother to change the name—it still says “Tundra” on the tailgate.
In terms of proportions, the Tundar feels like it was sketched in crayon on construction paper. It rolls on tiny 13-inch wheels, with several feet of sheet metal towering above them. The windshield is nearly vertical, and the ground clearance rivals that of a Camry.
Under the hood, there’s a 1.0-liter three-cylinder Isuzu engine. Thanks to the Tundar’s tall hood and compact powertrain, the engine looks comically lost in the engine bay. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, this little motor powers only the front wheels and maxes out at a top speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). Needless to say, it’s not built for heavy-duty tasks.
The interior, however, isn’t bad for such a budget truck. It features a stylish three-spoke steering wheel, a large digital instrument cluster, and bold red plastic trim on the dashboard and doors. Mercedes-style circular air vents, quilted floor mats (made from who-knows-what), air conditioning, and a backup camera come as standard equipment, giving it a surprisingly well-rounded cabin.
Even with a price tag of $6,000 FOB (Free on Board, meaning the seller covers shipping to the destination port), the Tundar isn’t a great deal. For that price, you could snag a decent used car with a better engine, more features, and an original design. But none of those vehicles will make you laugh quite like the Tundar—a hilariously lovable copycat.
