Dodge Unveils New HurriCrate Engines and Charger Junior Roadster Body

The newest HurriCrate models start at $10,495 and offer up to 550 horsepower.

Dodge is marking the 50th anniversary of Direct Connection with the launch of new products, including the HurriCrate engines. As the name suggests, these engines are derived from the Hurricane inline-six.

The HurriCrate engines are touted as the company’s “most power-dense street performance” engine family, available in two versions. The HurriCrate Cat 1 delivers 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 468 lb-ft (634 Nm) of torque, while the HurriCrate Cat 3 offers 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS) and 531 lb-ft (719 Nm) of torque.

According to Dodge, both engines feature “two low-inertia, high-flow turbochargers for rapid throttle response,” along with high-pressure direct fuel injection and a “Plasma Transfer Wire Arc (spray bore) coating in the cylinder bores for an ultra-thin, low-friction wear surface.”

The HurriCrate Cat 1 is priced at $10,495, while the HurriCrate Cat 3 is available for $13,745. For those looking for a more affordable option, long block variants are offered at $7,995 and $11,715.

Additionally, to celebrate Direct Connection’s milestone, Dodge is providing $200 and $300 incentives on select crate engines, including both HurriCrate and Hellcrate HEMI engines.

In other developments, Direct Connection has unveiled a new Charger Junior Roadster body, inspired by the 2024 model. This “half-scale version of a full-size NHRA Funny Car body” is designed for the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League and fits an 85.5-inch (2,172 mm) wheelbase. Weighing under 30 lbs (14 kg), the body is priced at $3,765.
