It would serve as the Raptor family’s version of the Mustang GTD

Ford CEO Jim Farley has been rethinking the company’s future. While pushing toward affordable EVs and more efficient manufacturing, he’s also eyeing what could follow the ultra-exclusive Mustang GTD—and his next idea points far off the racetrack.
Speaking on Bloomberg’s Hot Pursuit podcast (per Automotive News), Farley said, “No one’s ever built a supercar for gravel, high-speed sand, dirt. I’m thinking really deeply about it, and usually that turns into something.”
He revealed that he’s challenged his engineers to design a “1,000-horsepower, partially electric” off-road supercar concept, inspired by the popularity of Ford’s Raptor lineup. “These Raptor people are telling us something,” Farley added. “They’re not stupid. They’re really smart people. They spent $120,000 on an 800-horsepower pickup truck.”

If such a vehicle came to life, it would follow the Mustang GTD’s playbook: limited production, a sky-high price, and extreme performance. The GTD costs $327,000 with just 300 units being built, and Farley hinted the off-road supercar would be equally exclusive. More than just a wild concept, he sees it as a machine capable of taking on the Dakar Rally—an event he admitted he’d like Ford to win.
