Goodyear Sells Dunlop Brand to Sumitomo Rubber Industries for $701 Million

The company stated that the sale includes the Dunlop brand and its trademarks across Europe, North America, and Oceania

Goodyear announced that it will continue selling Dunlop-branded passenger car tires in Europe through at least December 31 of this year, paying royalties to Sumitomo Rubber during this period. Afterward, Goodyear will supply specific Dunlop-branded tires to Sumitomo in Europe for an additional five years.

The company also revealed plans to license back the Dunlop trademarks for truck tires in Europe on a long-term basis, with royalties paid to Sumitomo for sales.

In 2023, Goodyear outlined a strategy to cut costs and streamline its business portfolio, including divesting its Dunlop brand, Off-the-Road (OTR) business, and chemicals division, aiming to generate over $2 billion in gross proceeds.

As part of this initiative, Goodyear sold its OTR equipment tire business to Japan’s Yokohama Rubber for $905 million in cash last year.

The tire industry has faced mounting challenges in recent years, including competition from lower-cost Chinese manufacturers and increased regulatory scrutiny over environmental concerns.
