Jose Muñoz will take the helm at Hyundai Motor Company moving forward

Starting January 1, 2025, Hyundai Motor Company will welcome a new CEO. José Muñoz has been named to succeed current President and CEO Jaehoon Chang, who will transition to Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group’s automotive division.

A Spanish businessman, Muñoz previously served as CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America. Before joining Hyundai, he held leadership roles at Nissan Motor Corporation, including Chief Performance Officer and Chairman for Nissan China and North America, where he spent over 15 years.

José Muñoz joined Hyundai in 2019, playing a pivotal role in expanding the brand’s footprint and driving the success of key models like the Ioniq 5. Under his leadership, Hyundai committed $12.6 billion to the development of a new “Metaplant” and two joint battery ventures in Georgia, bolstering its presence in the electric vehicle market.

“José is a proven leader with vast global experience and is ideally suited to guide Hyundai through increasing competition and uncertainty. As outlined during our CEO Investor Day, we have a clear Hyundai Way vision to create a future focused on mobility and energy. With José and our leadership team, the future looks very bright for Hyundai.”
