Jose Muñoz will take the helm at Hyundai Motor Company moving forward
Starting January 1, 2025, Hyundai Motor Company will welcome a new CEO. José Muñoz has been named to succeed current President and CEO Jaehoon Chang, who will transition to Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group’s automotive division.
A Spanish businessman, Muñoz previously served as CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America. Before joining Hyundai, he held leadership roles at Nissan Motor Corporation, including Chief Performance Officer and Chairman for Nissan China and North America, where he spent over 15 years.
José Muñoz joined Hyundai in 2019, playing a pivotal role in expanding the brand’s footprint and driving the success of key models like the Ioniq 5. Under his leadership, Hyundai committed $12.6 billion to the development of a new “Metaplant” and two joint battery ventures in Georgia, bolstering its presence in the electric vehicle market.

Muñoz will conclude his tenure as CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America with the launch of the Ioniq 9 electric SUV at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show. Developed under his guidance, the Ioniq 9 continues his mission to expand Hyundai’s electric vehicle portfolio, following the success of the Ioniq 5.
