Kawasaki Heavy Industries has introduced “CORLEO,” a hydrogen fuel cell-powered, four-legged bionic robot that highlights cutting-edge mobile platform technology for the future

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has revealed CORLEO, a hydrogen-powered, four-legged bionic robot that blends robotics with Kawasaki’s expertise in motorcycles and energy systems. Designed as a futuristic off-road personal mobility platform, CORLEO highlights next-generation technologies in motion, power, and human-machine interaction.
CORLEO is equipped with advanced off-road capabilities, integrated hydrogen storage, and intuitive human-machine interface controls. It will be featured as part of Kawasaki’s “2050 Concept Model” exhibit at the Future Life Expo – Future City, a major showcase of future society during the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan, opening on April 13, 2025.

The robot’s four-legged design offers exceptional mobility and stability, delivering a dynamic and fun riding experience. Unique to Kawasaki, CORLEO’s rear legs utilize a swingarm mechanism inspired by motorcycle engineering, allowing independent vertical movement from the front legs. This system absorbs shocks and helps the rider maintain a forward-facing posture ideal for navigating complex terrain—similar to horseback riding. By shifting the rider’s center of gravity, even beginners can safely traverse rugged environments like mountains and waterways.
Powered by hydrogen, CORLEO represents a step toward a decarbonized society. Hydrogen is stored in canisters within the rear legs, while a hydrogen engine located in the front legs generates the required electricity. Through CORLEO, Kawasaki aims to make hydrogen-powered mobility feel more accessible and familiar.
The theme of Kawasaki’s exhibit—“Instinct to Move”—is rooted in the idea that humans are naturally wired to find joy in movement. CORLEO brings this instinct to life in a spectacular natural setting where riders can climb mountains, breathe fresh air, and take in breathtaking scenery.
Visitors to the Yumeshima site at the Osaka-Kansai Expo will be able to see CORLEO in various action poses. Kawasaki will also showcase the ALICE Rail, capturing the moment when the ALICE Cabin—the core of its future public transportation system, the ALICE SYSTEM—docks into place. Be sure to reserve your spot at the City of the Future pavilion to witness the Kawasaki Group’s vision of tomorrow’s mobility.
