Lamborghini CEO Attributes Record Sales to ‘YOLO’ Mentality

The brand’s CEO stated that the Temerario is faster and has better handling than the Huracan it replaces

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann credits the ‘YOLO’ mindset, which emerged after the COVID-19 pandemic, for driving strong sales despite challenging financial conditions. Following years of producing the Aventador and Huracan, Lamborghini has refreshed its supercar lineup with the introduction of the Revuelto and Temerario, both revealed at last weekend’s Monterey Car Week. The Urus family has also expanded with the debut of the plug-in hybrid SE variant. These new models are more powerful, faster, and more expensive than their predecessors, yet Lamborghini is on track to achieve record sales in 2024.

“Since the end of COVID, we’ve noticed this ‘YOLO’ effect — you only live once — and despite global market crises and geopolitical shifts, demand remains strong, with long wait times for our cars,” Winkelmann shared with Yahoo! Finance in Monterey. “So far, so good. We’ve had a record first six months in 2024, and if things continue like this, the full year will be very successful for Lamborghini.”

In the first half of 2024, Lamborghini delivered 5,558 vehicles worldwide, a notable 14% increase over the same period in 2023. Last year, Lamborghini surpassed the 10,000-unit milestone for the first time, selling 10,112 vehicles. At this pace, the company could exceed 11,000 sales by the end of 2024.

During the Yahoo! interview, Winkelmann also discussed the new Temerario, the successor to the iconic Huracan. While some enthusiasts are disappointed by the switch from the Huracan’s 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 to a high-revving 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors, Winkelmann believes this move is the “right direction for Lamborghini.”

You have to outperform the previous generation, including handling. The power-to-weight ratio is crucial to our success,” he said. “At the same time, we must reduce emissions. The battery system helps with that while also boosting performance, and I believe this combination is the right path for Lamborghini.”
