Land Cruiser Goes Self-Charging — And It’s the Most Powerful Version Yet

The 2026 Land Cruiser 300’s self-charging hybrid system pairs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with a single electric motor

Toyota is taking the Land Cruiser into electrified territory with the 2026 300 Series—not to be confused with the 250 Series offered in North America. This latest iteration introduces a self-charging hybrid powertrain that outperforms all existing gasoline and diesel versions in the lineup. First launched in the Middle East, the new hybrid variant is expected to roll out to additional markets in the near future.

Class-Leading Powertrain

At the core of this Land Cruiser’s transformation is a parallel hybrid system that marries a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with a single electric motor. Together, they produce an impressive 457 horsepower (341 kW / 464 PS) and 790 Nm (583 lb-ft) of torque—making it the most powerful Land Cruiser to date. That output even matches the Lexus LX700h. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Built for Real-World Off-Roading

Toyota says the electrified system was engineered with true off-road performance and durability in mind. The electric motor is tuned to deliver smooth, consistent throttle response, even across harsh and uneven terrain.

While complete specifications are still forthcoming, Toyota Australia has confirmed that the hybrid model will offer greater towing capacity than the current diesel version. However, it comes with a slightly smaller fuel tank—68 liters (17.9 gallons) compared to the standard 80 liters (21.1 gallons) in the gasoline-powered variant.

Subtle Visual Tweaks and Interior Updates

Visually, the hybrid variant introduces a refreshed lower front bumper and revised air intake design, specific to the VXR trim. While the GR Sport trim retains its familiar exterior styling, both models feature “457 TT” badging on the sides and a “HEV” emblem on the tailgate to signify their electrified nature.

Inside, the cabin benefits from updates introduced with the 2025 model year, including a fully digital instrument cluster that now displays hybrid-specific graphics. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen rounds out the tech upgrades. Though Toyota hasn’t released cargo space figures, it does confirm a power outlet in the cargo area.

Pricing and Availability

The new self-charging Land Cruiser is now available in the United Arab Emirates, starting at AED 389,900 ($106,200) for the VXR and AED 409,900 ($111,600) for the GR Sport trim.

Toyota has also confirmed that the hybrid Land Cruiser will arrive in Australia in the first half of 2026, with availability in Japan expected shortly thereafter.
