Mazda RX-7 from Tokyo Drift Sells for an Outrageous Price

It came close to surpassing the sale price of Paul Walker’s 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R

The Fast and Furious franchise has produced some of the most memorable movie cars, many of which have crossed the auction block over the years. The latest is the 1992 Mazda RX-7 FD from Tokyo Drift (the third film in the series), which just sold for an eye-watering £911,000 (around $1.2 million) at a Bonhams auction.

Believed to be one of only two surviving cars from filming, this RX-7 was driven by Sung Kang’s character, Han. It features a VeilSide Fortune body kit from the renowned Japanese aftermarket tuner and was mainly used for static and close-up shots. It still bears signs of its movie role, including camera rig marks and “#71 HANS” labels inside the cabin.

Compared to a stock RX-7 FD, this car is over 7.9 inches wider and only retains its original roof and tailgate. Finished in pearlescent orange, it rides on 19-inch Andrew Premier Series Racing Evolution 5 wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Nero tires, with the rears measuring 12 inches wide.

Ahead of the sale, the RX-7 underwent a full mechanical refresh, including a rebuilt twin-rotor turbocharged engine by RE-Amemiya. Despite showing 66,785 miles overall, it’s only covered 5,000 miles since its overhaul — though it has been in storage.

The $1.2 million sale price eclipses the $550,000 paid for Paul Walker’s 1994 Toyota Supra in 2021. However, Walker’s 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R by Kaizo Industries topped it in 2023, selling for $1.35 million.
