Custom paint jobs are entering the 21st century, paving the way for a new era of personalization

Personalization has become increasingly popular, much to the delight of automakers, as premium options boost their revenue. Unsurprisingly, Mercedes is expanding its Manufaktur program by launching a brand-new Manufaktur Studio.
Situated within Mercedes’ Sindelfingen complex, the Manufaktur Studio offers an exclusive experience where customers can explore the “highest degree of customization.” Visitors can even watch as handcrafted components are installed into their new vehicle.

Mercedes explained, “After customers configure their dream vehicle at the Centre of Excellence, individual components are crafted with meticulous precision and by hand at the Manufaktur. In the new Manufaktur Studio, they can witness firsthand how their vehicle is customized to match their personal preferences.” With a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, the Studio will handle a maximum of 20 vehicles per day.
In addition to opening the new Studio, Mercedes announced plans to introduce new Manufaktur colors and interior options for the S-Class next year. While details remain sparse, the automaker confirmed that enhanced customization options are also in development for the AMG lineup.

The automaker hinted at a new PixelPaint technology, described as an “innovative high-resolution painting process” inspired by inkjet printers.
PixelPaint is designed to allow a variety of multi-colored paint jobs by “applying high-quality paint directly onto the vehicle body with incredible precision.” This printer-like technology enables custom patterns and designs to be applied with exceptional accuracy. With virtually limitless possibilities, it will be fascinating to see the unique creations customers bring to life.
