Nissan Motor Co. is scaling back its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives following discussions with conservative activist Robby Starbuck. The company’s Americas division plans to discontinue funding for Pride events, eliminate diversity-focused hiring and promotion quotas, and refocus employee training solely on business objectives, removing DEI and LGBTQ-related content.

Additionally, Nissan will withdraw from the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, which evaluates companies’ commitment to LGBTQ equality. These decisions reflect a broader trend among companies reassessing their DEI commitments amid external pressures and changing political climates. Advocacy groups have expressed concern that such rollbacks may negatively impact workplace inclusivity and employee morale.
