A leaked memo to suppliers suggests that the long-range 1500 REV with the larger battery pack has been canceled—for now, at least

The all-electric Ram 1500 REV is still moving forward, but the 500-mile version originally promised is no longer in the works. There’s no indication of design flaws or battery issues—at least none publicly known. Instead, Ram has decided not to produce the long-range model.

According to a report by Mopar Insiders, a leaked company memo from “reliable sources” reveals that Stellantis has instructed suppliers to halt all work on the Ram 1500 BEV XL. This version would have featured a massive 229-kilowatt-hour battery pack, giving the truck an estimated range of 500 miles on a single charge. However, the advanced battery came with a hefty cost—$26,000 just for the pack itself.

The memo doesn’t explain why the long-range truck was canceled. In an email to a known automotive media outlet Stellantis pointed to a December announcement prioritizing the range-extended Ramcharger plug-in hybrid over the Ram 1500 REV. Beyond that, the company has provided no additional details about the decision to drop the long-range version.
The automotive market is facing significant uncertainty, particularly in the EV space. Former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares strongly advocated for electrification across all company brands, including Ram. However, delays had already affected both the Ram 1500 REV and the Ramcharger plug-in hybrid before Tavares resigned in December. Shortly after his departure, Ram announced further delays, pushing the REV’s launch to 2026 and prioritizing the hybrid Ramcharger for an earlier debut.

For now, plans for the standard-range Ram 1500 REV remain unchanged. Notably, the truck’s STLA Large platform is already capable of accommodating the larger battery pack, leaving the door open for a long-range version to return if market demand grows in the future.
