Serious Brake Pedal Problem Triggers ‘Do Not Drive’ Alert for Ford Super Duty

The 2025 F-Series Super Duty lineup from F-250 to F-550 is part of the recall

Ford is urging owners of select 2025 Super Duty pickups not to drive their vehicles due to a serious brake defect. The trucks may be missing a retaining spring meant to secure the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal — a flaw that could lead to total loss of braking power.

The recall affects 2,345 units of the 2025 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550. The issue came to light in late May when workers at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant discovered a missing retaining spring on an F-350 and alerted the company’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG).

That prompted a deeper investigation, which uncovered a May 5 report of a service technician experiencing no brake pressure during a pre-delivery inspection — the brake pedal was reportedly “swinging freely.” A similar case emerged in early June, when another missing spring was found during a routine check on a different F-350.

Ford traced the assembly issue to a new, in-training worker who had built both affected vehicles. Complicating matters, Ford’s camera monitoring system was offline at times during production, meaning the company couldn’t verify the proper installation on other trucks built during that window. As a result, it is recalling all potentially affected units.

Ford has already begun contacting owners. Until inspections are completed by dealers, the company is instructing customers not to drive their trucks.
