Italian executive Antonio Filosa steps into the top role after overseeing Stellantis operations in both North and South America

The wait to find Carlos Tavares’ successor is over. Following a thorough internal and external search, Stellantis’ Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Italian executive Antonio Filosa as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 23.
Filosa, born in Naples in 1973, is a Stellantis veteran with a 25-year career that began at Fiat in 1999. Over the years, he steadily climbed the ranks, eventually leading the company’s operations across both North and South America.
From Fiat to Stellantis Leadership
Filosa’s rise gained momentum in 2018 when he became Chief Operating Officer for South America at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). After FCA’s 2021 merger with PSA Group to form Stellantis, he retained his position and played a key role in Jeep’s expansion into the Brazilian market. His success there earned him the title of Jeep CEO in November 2023, a post he held until February 2025, focusing on strengthening the brand in Europe and boosting global sales.
Following Carlos Tavares’ resignation in December 2024, Filosa was named Chief Operating Officer for the Americas and Chief Quality Officer—positions that saw him quietly take on many of the CEO’s duties even before the official announcement.
His appointment comes at a difficult time for Stellantis. The company saw a 70% drop in profits in 2024, and Filosa has identified the U.S. retail market as a top priority in reversing that downward trend.

Board Backs Filosa’s Track Record
According to Stellantis’ Board, the decision to appoint Filosa was based on his “proven track record of hands-on success,” deep understanding of the company, and strong leadership skills. Executive Chairman John Elkann, who remains in his role, noted that he’s worked closely with Filosa over the past six months and praised his performance during a time of “unprecedented challenge.”
Looking Ahead
When Filosa officially takes over as CEO on June 23, he is expected to announce a new leadership team for the company. In a statement, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and acknowledged the challenges ahead. Still, he emphasized his confidence in Stellantis’ legacy and people, pointing to the company’s “immense talent, passion, and commitment” and reaffirming a continued focus on brand strength and customer experience.
