Development of the limited-edition, 1,184 hp V10 hybrid hypercar is still underway, with track testing set to begin next summer.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies has revealed a prototype of the RB17 hypercar, created by the renowned designer Adrian Newey, who previously worked on the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This limited-production vehicle boasts F1-rivaling lap times, thanks to its 1,184-horsepower hybrid V10 engine and advanced aerodynamics.
Development of the Red Bull RB17 started in 2021 and remains in full swing. This track-exclusive hypercar is slated to begin testing in the summer of 2025, before production commences at Red Bull’s Milton Keynes facilities.
Despite a rumored price tag of £5 million (approximately $6.47 million), which includes a personalized driver training program, all 50 units of the production run are reportedly already sold out.
The prototype revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed closely mirrors the final design, which will be slightly more compact. Interestingly, although the RB17 is designed for the track, a street-legal conversion option will be available for discerning owners.
Each of the 50 units promises to be a masterpiece of personalization, offering extensive customization options for colors, materials, and other bespoke details.
The sculpted bodywork features sizeable aero components and large vents, channeling air for optimal performance. According to the company, the hypercar can produce 3,747 pounds (1,700 kg) of downforce and boasts a top speed of over 350 km/h (217 mph).
The RB17 is powered by a Cosworth-developed, naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V10 engine that revs to 15,000 rpm, delivering 986 hp (735 kW / 1,000 PS). An additional 197 hp (147 kW / 200 PS) comes from a single electric motor integrated into an automatic transmission that drives the rear axle. The combined output of 1,184 hp (883 kW / 1,200 PS) is truly remarkable for a vehicle weighing under 900 kg (1,984 pounds).
The motorsport-inspired chassis setup includes an F1-style adjustable pushrod suspension, carbon brakes, and a range of Michelin tires developed exclusively for the RB17.
In an interview with Autocar, Adrian Newey stated that the goals for the RB17 are to look great, sound great, and be enjoyable for drivers of all skill levels, provided they have a reasonable amount of track experience. He added that at its “ultimate performance level,” the RB17 will be capable of F1 lap times, presumably with a master driver behind the wheel.
Despite recently announcing his departure from Red Bull Racing, Adrian Newey remains committed to completing the development of the RB17 hybrid hypercar.
