This is the first of many Bugatti tourbillons set to make their way through California

The newest and most advanced hybrid hypercar debuted at Monterey Car Week, took a brief spin in California, and then returned to Europe

The United States is expected to be a key market for the Bugatti Tourbillon hypercar, so it’s no surprise that the French brand quickly brought it stateside after its online debut.

Americans got their first glimpse of the new car at Monterey Car Week, followed by a brief road trip across Southern California from Beverly Hills to Newport Beach. In just a few years, those lucky enough to secure an allocation will be able to do the same.

The Bugatti’s journey began on the Pacific Coast Highway, with a stop at the Bugatti Beverly Hills dealership. It was then taken to Nobu Los Angeles for an exclusive event and to Soho House in West Hollywood, giving wealthy clients plenty of time to see it up close. The V16-powered beast later arrived in Newport Beach, where it was showcased at a special Super Car Show hosted by Bugatti Newport Beach.

After its U.S. tour, the Tourbillon returned to France to be prepared for its presentation at the exclusive Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille event, taking place from September 12-15.

To replace the iconic Chiron, Bugatti opted not to retain the legendary 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, choosing instead a different approach. They enlisted Cosworth to develop a new 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16, capable of revving to an astonishing 9,000 rpm and producing 986 hp. This engine is paired with three electric motors, bringing the Tourbillon’s total output to 1,775 hp. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 2 seconds, reach 124 mph (200 km/h) in under 5 seconds, hit 186 mph (300 km/h) in under 10 seconds, and achieve over 248 mph (400 km/h) in approximately 25 seconds.
