Toyota Refreshes Its Smallest Sedan With Hybrid Power and GR Sport Look

This GR-badged hybrid sedan focuses on sharper handling and a redesigned bodykit rather than outright speed, setting it apart from the standard Yaris Ativ

The Toyota Yaris Ativ—sold as the Vios in some markets—has often been seen as a scaled-down Corolla. Three years after launching the latest generation in Thailand, Toyota is expanding its appeal with a self-charging hybrid option and a new GR Sport trim aimed at buyers seeking sharper styling and handling.

GR Sport Styling
The GR Sport package adds a custom bodykit with a redesigned front bumper, larger intakes, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a subtle black spoiler. Black accents on the roof and mirrors, GR badges, and 17-inch alloys complete the look. Customers can choose from Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, or Attitude Black Mica.

Inside, the GR Sport continues the theme with black synthetic leather, gray stitching, GR logos, and segment-leading features including a 10.1-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and Toyota Safety Sense.

Hybrid Powertrain
Like most GR Sport models, the focus is on handling rather than raw speed. The suspension and steering have been retuned, with stabilizer bars added for better cornering balance. Power comes from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor for a combined 110 hp, sent through an e-CVT. Drivers can toggle Eco, Normal, or Power modes, with fuel economy rated at 29.4 km/l (69 mpg).

The hybrid isn’t exclusive to the GR Sport—buyers can also get it in a Premium trim with a more understated look. A non-hybrid 1.2-liter petrol version remains available in multiple trims but lacks the GR Sport treatment.

Pricing and Availability
In Thailand, the Yaris Ativ HEV starts at 719,000 baht ($22,200) for the Premium and 769,000 baht ($23,800) for the GR Sport, making it Toyota’s most affordable hybrid there. Optional bodykits add extra flair, while exports are planned to 23 markets across Southeast Asia.
