The bZ7 will debut exclusively in China, equipped with cutting-edge Huawei Harmony OS technology

Toyota has just pulled the wraps off its newest flagship EV, the bZ7, at the Shanghai Auto Show. Set to launch exclusively in China next year, this all-electric sedan is targeting the upper end of the market, directly challenging heavyweights like the Tesla Model S. Developed in collaboration with local partner GAC, the bZ7 blends Toyota’s reputation for safety, reliability, and quality with China’s cutting-edge tech.

This East-meets-West formula is becoming a trend, with Audi’s partnership with SAIC on their new EV brand as another prime example. International collaborations seem to be the go-to strategy for bringing next-gen EVs to life—at a more accessible price point.

Sleek Design, Big Dimensions
The bZ7 cuts a sharp figure, with an aerodynamic silhouette that balances sportiness with sedan practicality. Its sloping roofline stays elegant without veering into hatchback territory. From the side, it bears a resemblance to the Toyota Crown Crossover, but sets itself apart with sleeker LED lighting and a more polished surface finish.
At just over 5 meters (196.8 inches) long, the bZ7 is in the same size category as the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQE, and BMW i5—a clear signal that Toyota is swinging for the fences in the premium EV space.

Tech-Packed Interior
Step inside, and the tech-forward theme continues. A massive infotainment display powered by Huawei’s Harmony OS dominates the dashboard. The minimalist digital cluster, wood trim accents, and ambient lighting give the cabin a modern, upscale vibe—without feeling overdesigned. There are also tactile buttons for key functions and wireless charging pads for added convenience.

Toyota claims the bZ7 will feature the latest in intelligent driving tech—though for now, that’s more buzz than detail. Still, with a 2026 launch planned for China, we won’t have to wait long to see what it delivers. And while a global release seems unlikely, never say never in today’s fast-moving EV market.

Expanding the bZ Lineup
The bZ7 wasn’t the only debut. Toyota also introduced the bZ5, essentially a rebadged version of the bZ3C fastback crossover. It joins the growing electric family alongside the bZ4X, bZ3X SUV, and bZ3 sedan—all focused on the Chinese market.
With this lineup, it’s clear: Toyota is going all-in on electrification in China, though U.S. availability remains off the table for now.
Let me know if you want this tightened even further or tailored for a specific audience—like car enthusiasts, casual readers, or EV buyers.
