Toyota’s New Wagon Is Under the Radar and Out of Reach

This unique edition of the Crown Signia won’t leave Japan, much to the disappointment of U.S. fans

Matte paint isn’t for everyone, but Toyota seems convinced it’s trending. Just months after the Crown Estate’s debut in Japan, a special edition called the Limited Matte Metal has launched — and yes, it’s staying in Japan. While North America gets the same car as the Crown Signia, this stealthy version won’t be making the trip. Figures.

Despite its lifted-wagon proportions, the Limited Matte Metal edition pulls off the look well. It joins Toyota’s growing domestic lineup of matte-finished Crowns, alongside the Crossover, Sport, and Sedan.

The matte finish isn’t just for show — it’s treated with TM Coat, a protective layer that resists scratches and grime, lasting about a year before needing reapplication. Think ceramic coating, even if Toyota doesn’t label it that way.

The blacked-out theme extends to matte black 21-inch wheels and red calipers, with all chrome trim swapped for gloss black. Inside, most surfaces are wrapped in black leather, offset by gold metallic accents on the dash, steering wheel, vents, and more. A subtle badge reads “Matte Metal The Limited.”

Under the hood, the exclusive plug-in hybrid setup pairs a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with two electric motors, putting out a total of 302 horsepower. Pricing in Japan starts at ¥8,900,000 — about $61,600 USD. Just don’t expect to see one on American roads anytime soon.
