AMG may have built it to meet homologation rules for the new GT3

Mercedes promised more V-8s, and it’s delivering—the GT Track Sport concept comes equipped with eight cylinders under the hood. While it’s officially a concept for now, production seems likely. AMG describes it as “a preview of a possible expansion of the GT series,” and adds that “the GT family is not yet complete.”
Despite the “Track” name, there’s hope it’ll be road-legal. To race the upcoming GT3 in competition, Mercedes-AMG must base it on a production car, meaning a homologation model is needed. That’s likely what we’re looking at here—a hardcore version sitting above the GT63 Pro in the lineup, which already stretches from the GT43’s four-cylinder to more potent variants.

A spare Michelin street tire spotted next to a camouflaged prototype hints at street intent, and even through the disguise, it’s hard to miss the aggressive swan-neck wing and prominent front splitter.
It’s unclear how much of the regular AMG GT remains, but the Track Sport appears to ditch the 2+2 layout in favor of a proper two-seat setup. That would help AMG regain some of the track-focused credibility critics say was softened in the second generation.

Affalterbach has high ambitions—it wants to “set new standards and record times,” possibly even at the Nürburgring. The previous GT Black Series posted a 6:48 lap on the 20.8-km layout in 2020, but Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS with the Manthey Kit bested that a year later with a 6:43.3. Mercedes-AMG later reclaimed the crown with the One hypercar at 6:29.09, but the GT Track Sport likely won’t touch that.
Beating Porsche’s pace, however, seems very much within reach—though that challenge may soon heat up, as a new 911 GT2 RS is in development.
