Both brands are well-known for their expertise in performance brakes and suspension components.
Brembo and Öhlins Racing have just finalized a major deal, with Brembo acquiring Öhlins from parent company Tenneco for $405 million, according to Brembo’s press release. Pending regulatory approval, this will mark Brembo’s largest acquisition to date, significantly enhancing its presence in the automotive performance market.
Öhlins Racing, renowned for its high-performance suspension components for both cars and motorcycles in street and racing applications, was founded in 1976 and is based in Stockholm. The company operates two manufacturing facilities in Sweden and Thailand, along with research and development centers in both countries, and testing and distribution hubs in Sweden, Thailand, Germany, and the U.S. Öhlins employs around 500 people.
“We are thrilled to join forces with Brembo and explore new growth opportunities. By combining our strengths and resources, we aim to drive innovation and provide even greater value to our customers and employees,” said Öhlins Racing CEO Tom Wittenschlaeger.
It’s unclear whether Brembo will make significant changes to Öhlins’ workforce or product lineup. Brembo has been expanding recently, including the acquisition of SBS Friction in 2021 to add motorcycle and ATV brake components to its portfolio. Earlier this year, it also announced a new production facility in Thailand.
“Öhlins is an excellent fit for Brembo,” said Brembo Executive Chairman Matteo Tiraboschi. “It’s a globally recognized brand with a strong business and unmatched reputation, both on the racetrack and the road. We see this as a great opportunity to broaden our automotive offerings. With Öhlins, we continue advancing our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions, leveraging synergies across key vehicle technologies.”
The deal is expected to receive final approvals by 2025.
